Muse & Art Lesson

Muse & Art Lesson

01.11.2024

Reflecting a moment of creativity within the community, the artwork brings to life a rabbit character painting with both hands, symbolizing an artist engaged in creating something extraordinary. It reinterprets Picasso's creativity, while the girl whispering to him represents inspiration and support — a muse. The mysterious team of characters standing behind signifies creative influence and unity for a common purpose, representing the community itself, observing the creative process. They embody the diversity of artificial directions and creative approaches. The window, where artists showcase their works, serves as a gallery where the curator evaluates and archives participants' creativity. The space features works by some masters urging attention to their historical context in the modern world. The atmosphere illustrates community, inspiration, and the significance of self-improvement through creativity.

1/ Marcel Duchamp's Fountain, presented in 1917, became a symbol of conceptual art, provoking discussions about the nature of art and blurring the boundaries between artistic objects and everyday items.

2/ This time, the Fountain is signed with "gm" instead of "R. Mutt"—an abbreviation for "good morning," which has become a rooted phrase in the community, largely thanks to punk6529.

3/ Picasso preferred to wear a striped shirt as a connection to the maritime culture, which embodied freedom and independence. Moreover, this style was popular among artists and bohemians, emphasizing his rebellious spirit and belonging to the art community.

4/ "Composition with Red, Blue, and Yellow" is a painting by Dutch artist Piet Mondrian, one of the main representatives of abstract painting, created in 1929. It was made within the framework of the Dutch artistic movement De Stijl, founded in 1917, which aimed for abstraction and the use of geometric forms and primary colors, reflecting ideas of harmony and order in art.

5/ The Bottle Dryer, created in 1914, represents an important example of readymade art that became iconic for conceptual art. Duchamp purchased it at a department store and presented it as an artistic object, significantly influencing the perception of art and the role of the artist. The original work has not survived, but replicas created in the 1960s continue to be exhibited in museums around the world.

6/ ‘The Dream World’ is a series of drawings on SuperRare that are inspired by petroglyphs as well as the mythology of ancient civilizations and serves as the key to understanding the material and subtle worlds of my Universe.

7/ Over the centuries, the representational aspect of art has gradually diminished. Works by Renaissance artists can be considered a "clean window" into a world where the viewer sees reality. Over time, this window became cloudy: for the Impressionists, it is smeared; for Picasso, the glass is broken and refracted. The culmination of this process was Malevich's "Black Square," when the glass became completely dark, symbolizing a final rejection of traditional notions of visual art.

8/ ‘Meditation rabbit’ is a series of drawings that originated in the spring of 2016 when the first rabbits appeared on the T-shirts of the Métrique brand. Then in 2021, it appeared as an NFT on KnownOrigin (there are a total of 165 rabbits on KO, which were purchased and ended up in collections from X-Copy to Punk4156). In the second half of 2024, after the closure of KnownOrigin, I decided to continue this series on #base on Foundation. This time, the collection is dedicated to the anime and manga that have influenced my visual perception.

9/ ‘Woman with Hat (Olga)’ was painted by Picasso in 1935. This work is characterized by bright, contrasting colors and abstract forms that emphasize the emotional distance between Picasso and his wife during that period.

In 2021, I also painted a poster for the ‘Concert of Drawings’ featuring my character in the style of this painting. During the COVID pandemic, I conducted Instagram live sessions with musicians who played or sang while I drew.

10/ 'TechnoHands' is a collection of paintings that originated from the physical canvases of my exhibition in 2015, and was already placed as an NFT on Objkt in 2023. The Techno Hand is a resident of nightclubs. The Hand always finds its rhythm at the party and peeks out from the crowd above the heads of the visitors. But lately, the Techno Hand has been spending time not only in clubs. Let's explore together what it's up to and what other interests it has.

11/ I still mostly start my work in a notebook, then make a sketch on a tablet.

12/ Suprematism is an artistic movement founded by Kazimir Malevich in the early 20th century, focused on abstract forms and pure colors aimed at expressing higher ideas through geometric elements. The main goal of Suprematism was to free art from the real world, allowing artists to focus on the sensual and emotional aspects of perception.

13/ The idea of creating ‘Muse & Art Lesson’ arose during the viewing of the paintings of Moebius, a French bande dessinée author, as well as the works of Picasso, particularly his Blue Period between 1901 and 1904. During this time, Picasso painted essentially monochromatic paintings in in shades of blue and blue-green, only occasionally warmed by other colors.

Through this artwork, I aimed to inspire reflection on deeper concepts and engage audiences with ideas that transcend visual aesthetics alone.
